Great for home cooking for dogs

“Back to Basics is a great resource for pet owners looking to cook for their dogs. As a veterinarian I recommend these recipes to my clients as they are fully balanced and contained all nutrients, vitamins and minerals that a dog needs. A nutrient analysis is included for each recipe. These recipes can be fed exclusively on a long term basis. The recipes include different protein sources (including pork, salmon, beef, and chicken) and two of the recipes are grain free. Each recipe comes complete with an ingredient list, instructions and feeding guidelines. These recipes are great for dogs that may be allergic to particular foods or dogs that do not do well on commercial diets.” – Nicole, Stamford, CT

Perfect tool for home cooking!

“As a pet owner who home cooks I was thrilled to see Back to Basics, Whole Foods for Healthy Dogs available on Amazon. After extensive research online and with talking to our local vet I had found it almost impossible to find nutritionally balanced recipes.

While slim, the book has everything you need to be able to home cook for a healthy pet. Dr. Lauten gives recipes for beef, poultry, pork and fish, using a variety of fats and vegetables to insure a wide range of choices in feeding. Having the nutritional analysis of each recipe along with feeding guidelines listed is an invaluable tool and that alone makes purchasing this volume a must. Considering I paid over a hundred dollars for a custom recipe, this puts healthy home cooking for a pet into everyone’s budget.

Can’t wait to try the Sweet Paw-Tato Chips!

Dr. Lauten, from those of us who have to or have chosen to home cook, many thanks. ” -C. Sepulveda, Texas

Great resource for veterinarians and dog owners who wish to cook for their dogs

“Back to basics: Whole Foods for Healthy Dogs by Dr. Susan Lauten and Joseph Lascola is an excellent resource for dog owners who would like to cook nutritonally balanced meals for their dogs. As a veterinarian I have received many requests from clients for home-cooked maintenance and specialty diet recipes. Most of the diets found on the internet are not correctly balanced in vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, and carbohydrates and cannot be fed for any period of time. Dr. Lauten has insured that each diet is correctly balanced, and provides dog owners with easy to use recipes and useful feeding guidelines. Nutritionally balanced healthy treat recipies are also included, as well as several good basic rules to follow when feeding dogs. Resources for purchasing some of the ingredients are also included. This is an excellent resource for dog owners and for veterinarians. Can’t wait for the rest of the volumes to be published.” – Tisha, Tennessee

“I want to let all of my fellow dog people know about the book that was recently published by a couple of friends of mine. It’s called ‘Back to Basics: Whole Foods for Healthy Dogs’. My lovely friend Joe Lascola contributed the included recipes for dog treats. I don’t generally like to send folks to Amazon, since they are evil corporate fiends.
